WestLand is providing archaeological data recovery services for the South Mountain Freeway construction. These efforts comprise four individual projects and include the development of a Historic Properties Treatment Plan and Section 106 consultation letters, data recovery, laboratory processing, analysis, reporting, and curation with the Huhugam Heritage Center on the Gila River Indian Community for eleven sites throughout the 26-mile length of the proposed freeway. The project sites include Hohokam, Patayan, Pee Posh, Akimel O’odham, and Euroamerican components ranging in age from the Hohokam Pioneer period (A.D. 500−750) to the Late Historic period (A.D. 1900−1950). The data recovery fieldwork was completed in three years and WestLand is now providing archaeological monitors for the construction phase of the project. Analysis of the recovered artifacts and samples is on-going with the final reports due to be completed in 2020
