Jocelyn Bernatchez, PhD

Cultural Resources Director - Archaeology & Historic Preservation

Jocelyn’s 25-plus-year career in archaeology has focused on cultural resource management and research, with an emphasis on projects in the American Southwest and Great Basin over the last 12 years. Over the course of her career, Jocelyn has overseen laboratory processing and artifact curation preparation for several institutions, directed survey and excavation projects, and written and/or edited numerous technical reports for survey, testing, and data recovery projects. Since joining WestLand Resources in 2018 as a Principal Investigator and Project Manager, she has led projects throughout Arizona and Utah, ranging from small cultural resource inventories to complex, multi-phase investigations.

Jocelyn is well-versed in federal and state cultural resource regulations and meets the Secretary of the Interior Standards as an archaeologist. She has developed and managed archaeological databases, conducted spatial and statistical analysis, and provided GIS-based support for a variety of projects. In addition to her project work, she has written and edited numerous technical reports, presented research at professional conferences, and published in leading archaeological and scientific journals. In her current role, she balances project and departmental management while contributing to the long-term strategic growth of the cultural resources division.

Jocelyn earned a BA in Anthropology from Dartmouth College and both an MA and PhD in Anthropology from Arizona State University.
