WestLand was asked to provide a full suite of landscape services for three phases of residential development including plant and riparian habitat assessment and mitigation plans, recreational planning and design, entry monumentation and right of way landscape and irrigation design.

Westland prepared initial native plant and riparian habitat assessment and mitigation plans as well as the Recreation Area Plan for the entire development. Following approval of these documents by Pima County, Westland prepared complete construction documents for entry monumentation, a seven-acre park site, a recreational trail network, site revegetation and landscape and irrigation for the development.

The park site includes parking, a basketball court, three acres of turf free play area, picnic ramadas, walking paths, a playground, site lighting and park furnishings.

The park site is a sloping desert foothills site which required creative grading and design of integrated retaining walls to incorporate all of the Pima County required park elements while minimizing disturbance to the surrounding natural areas.

The entry monumentation design utilizes southwest themes and materials to create an entry statement that incorporates existing vegetation and topography into an announcement of the project. A custom steel railing along portions of the entry road includes southwest icons.

The later phases of the project are still under construction. Unfortunately, many of the designed elements were eliminated by the client during construction due to budgetary concerns.
